Mandu is pronounced muhn-doo and it's the name of the very popular Korean dumplings! We decided to make this the symbol of everything we aspire to do.
Our company was founded with a dream to connect the world with the cultures and cuisines of South Korea!
It all started with Korean food. WE LOVE KOREAN FOOD! But really, we adore all of Korean culture. From the food to the music to the dramas and films, we are fascinated by everything Korean. We wanted to learn more about the culture and share it with others, but there was a problem.
We searched for every question we had online, but we must have spent hours scrolling through websites trying to find food recipes, info on our favorite K-pop artists, general cultural questions, and anything that could give us an idea of what it would actually be like to step foot in Korea.
And we're not just talking as tourists.
We're talking about what the country is actually like. How are the people? What are they interested in? What is their ancestor's history? What do they believe in?
All these questions and there was just such a lack of culture hubs that laid everything out in a clear and simple way where we could spend a few minutes and have everything we needed.
It was a shame, but we had to make do.
We also realized that it was hard to share an understanding of Korean culture with other friends that were curious. If you were new to the culture, you'd have no idea where to start.
And where would you start? How would you explain Korean culture to someone who had never even heard of it before?
We thought about it long and hard, and eventually, we decided that the best way to do it was to start from the beginning - to create a one-stop destination online for all things Korean culture, starting with food! This would be a website where people could come to learn, shop, and build a community with other culturally curious friends - without having to spend hours trying to glue everything together.
